Ever feel like you have too much of a good thing? Many families feel overwhelmed by the amount of candy they receive trick-or-treating on Halloween. Your Norwalk dentists, Doctors Norman and Adam Sommers, join with the community in sponsoring a Candy Buyback Day this November 4th to show our support and gratitude to the men and women in service to our country overseas.
What is a Candy Buyback Day?
Is there an alternative to overindulgence at Halloween? Yes, there is. It’s called Candy Buyback Day, a nationwide campaign aimed at helping our nation’s troops serving so far away from their loved ones. The special day also raises awareness of oral health needs for children right in our own neighborhood.
A Candy Buyback Day is your family’s chance to share the amazing amount of candy and other sugary treats kids collect from friends, neighbors and school parties. The National Confectioner’s Association says that millions of snack-sized, wrapped chocolate bars and other popular candies are sold and distributed during the Halloween season at the end of October. While any dental care professional maintains an occasional treat is fine, overindulgence in carbs and processed sugar leads to serious dental problems–in kids and adults alike.
Norwalk dentists such as Adam Sommers DDS and Norman Sommers DDS feel that those Halloween candy numbers are just a bit too high. Could or should kids consume all that sugar? Too much sugar leads to too much plaque and dental decay and gum disease. Couldn’t at least some of that candy be put to better use?
So, the team at Sommers Family Dentistry invites the people of Norwalk and the surrounding area to come to the office at 72 Executive Drive on Wednesday, November 4th. Children who donate some of their Halloween candy to our armed forces each will receive a free movie pass to a local cinema.
What are the donation times?
Simply come to Sommers Family Dentistry between 3 and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th. A team member will “buy back” your donation of wrapped candy and present you with your free movie pass. It’s that simple. From there, your donation gets packed with others received on Candy Buyback Day for shipment to soldiers who will smile knowing you cared enough to think about them. Thank-you in advance for your support of this worthwhile cause.
While you’re at the office, why not schedule a routine check-up and cleaning with your Norwalk dentist? Basic preventive services such as exams, x-rays and hygienic cleanings, combined with a healthy, low-sugar diet, are the best ways to keep kids and adults smiling brightly for years.
