What are CEREC Same-Day Dental Crowns?
CEREC one-day dental crowns are a faster and more convenient way to restore damaged teeth than traditional restorations. These crowns can address issues such as damage, wear and tear, discomfort, sensitivity, and even aesthetic concerns like discoloration and misshapen teeth.
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics or Ceramic REConstruction. This system uses a digital infrared camera that captures a visual impression of the damaged tooth so there are no messy impression trays and materials to contend with, 3D CAD software to design your crown, and a high-speed milling unit to fabricate the appliance. The whole process can be completed in a single appointment, meaning there will be no need for you to wear a temporary crown. All CEREC one-day crowns are made of tooth-colored porcelain, so they look natural and are completely metal-free.
The Process of Getting a CEREC Same-Day Dental Crown
Once Dr. Norman Sommers or Dr. Adam Sommers determines that you are a good candidate for a CEREC one-day crown, the first step is to administer a local anesthetic to render the process painless. Our dentist will then remove a small amount of enamel to make room for the crown and take a digital impression of it afterward. The computer then creates a virtual model of your new restoration and designs your crown right down to the matching color. The design is then wirelessly transmitted to the milling unit that manufactures the crown in approximately 20 minutes. If necessary, your new crown will be further polished and adjusted to perfectly match your other teeth. Once that is finished, the crown is checked for a proper fit and cemented into place. In the span of as little as two hours, your tooth will be completely restored with a beautiful and lifelike dental crown.
The Benefits of CEREC Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns
CEREC one-day crowns boast a range of benefits over traditional restorations. A few of these include:
- The convenience of being placed in a single appointment.
- No uncomfortable temporary crowns to worry about.
- Digital impressions mean you won’t have to worry about biting into messy dental molds.
- Lifelike results that leave your tooth looking beautiful and completely natural.
- Containing no metal so you won’t have to worry about uncomfortable thermal expansion or mercury exposure.
Often being comparable in cost to traditional dental crowns since the dentist will only have to book a single appointment and won’t have to have the crown crafted at a separate dental lab.
